Store Event : Art of Henna Workshop

Join us for a night of Henna! Unleash your creative potential and learn the ancient practice of Henna art, or Mehandi. Jes Saunders will guide us in basic techniques from professional henna artists and empower us to design traditional artwork.

We will learn to roll application cones, practice design elements with non-staining cones, and each student will have the opportunity to purchase fresh, professional quality henna paste to continue their exploration on their own.

Relish a bit of "me time" with your fellow yogis as you dive into the creative flow and enjoy a bonding beauty session!

This will be an active, hands-on workshop - come ready to create!

Meet Jes Saunders, the Artist:

Howdy! My name is Jes, and I sling henna... my love of this art form began when I was 17 years old. It immediately struck me as an incredibly beautiful, versatile art form, and I marveled that the rest of the world wasn't covered in it. I looked around my area for any sign of this mystical bedeckment, but never came across anyone who knew about it or offered it. By my college years, I was tired of the delay, and began stalking the Indian grocers. I picked up some books, and started experimenting. My results were not great, but I persisted, my love for it did not fade (no pun intended!).

Then, in 2001, I found Catherine Cartwright-Jones's fantastic website HennaPage.com, which blew the doors wide open. Many more years of experimentation took place, but with a vast pool of resources from which to draw. Fast forward to today, and I'm still fascinated with the stuff. I brew my own mix, roll my own cones, freehand all designs, and even dabble in guilding, glow-in-the-dark guilding, and white hennas. My style has evolved over the years, but I still relish a creative challenge, and enjoy co-manifesting new and exciting visions of impermanence.
